Visualizations
The following heatmaps show the amount of people with gender diverse identities represented in Wikidata by occupation and country of citizenship. This data should not be intended as representative of the entire queer population of the world, since Wikidata per se is not representative of the entire population: only people who fit certain notability criteria are represented there.
However, this analysis can be used to understand how the queer population is represented within Wikidata, and what kind of biases could be present there. For example, it could be interesting to understand why the majority of represented queer people are from the United States, and if this is due to, for example, a preponderance of U.S.-based editors in Wikidata.
Also, it can be a valid tool to understand if there are contexts in which publicly coming out as a queer person is more accepted than others. For example, many represented people come from creative occupations, suggesting that the creative industry is more accepting of queer people than other industries.
Another way to observe the data is to read the heatmaps by observing the specific lines and columns. For example, in both heatmaps, the most represented categories are non-binary person and trans woman.
